Sketch: Sin against the Beast

Sketch: Sin against the Beast

Preliminary study for a series of illustrations about the Mesopotamian pantheon. Sin, the moon god, depicted as a white bull facing Humbaba, the guardian of the Cedar Forest.

The composition plays with the idea of reflection: both characters share features, as if the beast were the dark mirror of the god. The palette will be limited: white, black, and a single lapis lazuli accent.

Technical notes:

  • Graphite on Fabriano paper, 200 gsm
  • Dimensions: 29.7 × 42 cm (A3)
